IRS Form 990 Provides Opportunity for Hospitals
to Tell Their Story
WordWrite Communications' President Shares Insight, Experience
in Published Article
PITTSBURGH, Pa., February 10, 2009 — Nonprofit hospitals will report more to the Internal Revenue Service this year than at any time in the past 30 years because of drastic changes in their annual tax filings. Given that, savvy nonprofit hospital leaders should consider how the communities they serve will digest and react to this new disclosure, according to a recently published article in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette by WordWrite Communications President and CEO Paul Furiga.
Titled “IRS Form 990 opportunity for nonprofit hospitals to tell their stories,” the article leverages WordWrite Communications’ expertise and experience in working with healthcare systems. It illustrates how the new Form 990 is actually an opportunity to explain the complex issues and relationships that make nonprofit hospitals community assets in today's challenging healthcare environment, adding that without such explanation, hospital critics, community health advocates, the news media and others can easily take a hospital's Form 990, available on the Internet, and intentionally or unintentionally misrepresent hospital operations.
