WordWrite Provides Real-Life PR Experience To Michigan State Student

 

PITTSBURGH (July 17, 2012) —WordWrite Communications’, one of Pittsburgh’s fastest growing public relations and social media firms, has added Chelsea Dowling as its summer intern.

Dowling, a Michigan State University communications student, will collaborate with two other interns at WordWrite Communications to develop ideas and implement the communications plan for the first Pittsburgh HubSpot User Group event, which will take place in the fall. She will also work closely with the WordWrite team, helping to tell their clients’ great, untold stories.

“We are thrilled to have Chelsea on our team for the summer,” said Paul Furiga, president and CEO of WordWrite Communications. “We have lots of projects that she will be a great asset to. She will bring fresh, innovative ideas to WordWrite and in turn we will help her explore the public relations field and expand her education through experience with real-life PR.”

Dowling previously worked for The Odyssey, a nationwide newspaper in part with Olympia Media Group, as the social media director of MSU’s chapter of the paper.

WordWrite Communications’ Senior Vice President Appointed to Circle C Youth and Family Services Board

 

Jason Snyder, senior vice president of WordWrite Communications, was recently appointed to the board of directors of Circle C Youth and Family Services. Founded in 1967 by John Patak and his wife Christine, Circle C is a non-profit organization that provides community-based group homes, counseling, foster care and other support services for at-risk youth in the Pittsburgh area. Rachel Borowski, a rising senior, will assist the WordWrite team in monitoring social media, maintaining media lists and clip files, compiling the monthly newsletter and drafting press releases. Borowski will experience real-world public relations in a nurturing environment. 

“Borowski brings energy and a desire to learn the business of public relations,” said WordWrite President and CEO, Paul Furiga. “Add to that, she’s a well-rounded communications student, which is vital for success in PR today.”

Borowski is the editor-in-chief of Her Campus WVU, a branch of a national, online magazine targeted for college-aged women. She has also worked with the Morgantown Area Chamber of Commerce, Big Brothers Big Sisters of North Central West Virginia and Youth Marketing Connection as a brand enthusiast for American Eagle Outfitters. Additionally, she has served on the executive board of the WVU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America and is a member of Kappa Tau Alpha.

WordWrite to be at Point Park University Career Fair

 

On Wednesday, February 22, between 1 and 3 p.m., staff members from WordWrite Communications will be on hand at the career fair at Point Park University to market the agency and its summer internship position. The annual internship fair is sponsored by the School of Communication and is located in the Ballroom, on the Third Floor of Lawrence Hall. Juniors and seniors majoring in public relations, communications, journalism, marketing, or a related field will be able to work with senior staff members on real client jobs writing press releases, building media lists, participating in meetings and creating social media posts, among other things. This paid position is hands-on and will help students develop skills that can only be acquired in a professional setting.

If you have good writing skills, experience in Microsoft Office, and use social media, you may be a good candidate for the position. It’s a plus if you have knowledge of Hootsuite and Hubspot.

A graduate of Slippery Rock University, Walter joined the WordWrite team as an apprentice in June of last year and soon progressed to assistant account executive,, where she worked with senior team leaders on client projects for Family Eye Care, Kennametal, Peak Performance Management, Redstone Highlands Senior Living Communities and Dismas Charities.

WordWrite Communications Adds Intern to Fast-Growing Firm

A student with previous exposure in both marketing and writing, she will be furthering her professional experience in public relations with the company. Trimble will assist WordWrite with expanding social media strategies, writing press releases, and helping develop ideas for furthering communication efforts with “StoryCrafting,” WordWrite’s proprietary communications model that uses storytelling to build two-way, ongoing relationships with designated audiences.

Trimble is a senior at the University of Pittsburgh, pursuing a dual-degree in marketing and nonfiction writing. She has obtained social media and online communications expertise at Murray Avenue Apothecary, followed by event planning and development experience at the National Kidney Foundation, all while writing a column for The Pitt News.

Snyder, a vice president and six-year veteran of WordWrite, has led many of the agency’s largest and most complex accounts, including Buck Consultants, Pfizer, Inc. and West Penn Allegheny Health System.

“During the two worst economic years since the Great Depression, WordWrite has doubled in size,” said WordWrite CEO and founder Paul Furiga. “Jason’s contributions to this growth have been substantial. As we continue to grow at a rapid pace, Jason will help manage our expansion here in Pittsburgh and in new markets.

“Our clients and our WordWrite team appreciate Jason’s strategic insights and leadership, especially in complicated crisis and business to business communications situations,” Furiga said.

Snyder’s promotion caps a period in which WordWrite doubled its revenue, added significantly to its staff and tripled its office space when it moved Downtown in August 2011.

Snyder received his B.A. in journalism from the University of Pittsburgh Johnstown and began his career in daily journalism at the Bedford Gazette and then the Butler Eagle before entering the corporate world. Prior to joining WordWrite in 2006, Snyder worked for the Oncology Nursing Society, Alcoa, Inc. and BNY Mellon Financial in successively progressive corporate communications roles.

In addition to his work at WordWrite, Snyder is active in the community and currently serves on the board of Gateway Rehabilitation Center. He lives in the North Hills with his wife Kelly.

Hollie Geitner brings strong public relations management skills to PR agencyhollie geitner thumb

WordWrite Communications, one of Pittsburgh’s fastest growing PR agencies, has added veteran public relations professional, Hollie Geitner, as its vice president of Client Services.

Formerly vice president of Marketing and Communications with non-profit Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership (PDP), Geitner has 14 years of experience managing public relations and marketing campaigns.  Prior to joining the PDP, Geitner was manager of Corporate Communications for Greensburg-based Allegheny Energy overseeing internal communications to the company’s more than 4,000 employees.  She also spent eight years in the Corporate Communications Department of Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield focusing primarily on media relations efforts for the insurer and its subsidiaries.

As vice president of Client Services for WordWrite, Geitner will manage client accounts working to share their great, untold stories by using every tool in the PR toolbox, including social media, research, writing and media relations.
