Bob
De Witt has told stories over the airwaves and for nonprofits for
more than a quarter century. At WordWrite, he shares the unique, authentic
stories of our clients through the news media.
De Witt previously served as Director of Marketing and Communications
for the Boy Scouts of America/Greater Pittsburgh Council. In 2005,
he told the story of a local Cub Scout who set a national record by
selling 10 tons of popcorn, generating news coverage in 39 U.S. cities
and on three television networks.
Beginning in 1999, De Witt was media spokesman for United Way of Allegheny
County and created messages and materials that helped raise $187 million
in six campaigns.
De Witt's tenure as News Director of KDKA-AM, the world's first commercial
radio station, capped 17 years in radio news in Pennsylvania, Michigan
and New York. De Witt covered local campaign stops in four presidential
elections and interviewed national and world figures, including Margaret
Thatcher, Norman Schwarzkopf and Gerald Ford.
His investigative reporting into political corruption drove a city
manager from Benton Harbor, Mich., and he broke the story of a deadly
bus-truck crash on the NYS Thruway, reporting live on WCBS-AM/New
York.
A golf enthusiast, De Witt has covered five major championships and
a Ryder Cup, interviewing Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Jack Nicklaus
and other PGA stars.
He's written features for Graduating Engineer
and Stone World
magazines and Our Sunday Visitor
and Pittsburgh Catholic
newspapers. De Witt also taught journalism at Point Park University
in Pittsburgh.
A graduate of St. Bonaventure University with a B.A. in Mass Communication,
De Witt is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators,
Pittsburgh chapter.
