Your Opportunity: WordWrite’s Internship Program

WordWrite seeks talented and self-motivated students looking to make an impact in digital, social media and public relations. This is a part-time, paid internship for juniors and seniors in college. If you’re interested in applying, we’re looking for majors in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, writing or a related course of study. You may also receive academic credit for our internship.

WordWrite interns are given the opportunity learn, grow and thrive in an agency setting. Projects include expanding the digital presence of the agency and empowering the creative freedom to implement their own ideas and earn Inbound Marketing certification through HubSpot. The intern will assist agency staff in work for both the agency and clients in writing, inbound marketing, social media, media relations with supervision from the account executives and account supervisors.

WordWrite interns are capable of coming up with their own ideas and presenting them during weekly meetings. Our interns are involved in many different projects and gain a deeper understanding of the communications field, preparing them for a successfully career.

The Intern Role:

You connect with people quickly in an outgoing, friendly manner. You employ persuasive communication skills to gain the interest and involvement of others on your team. You have an extreme sense of urgency, combined with a drive to get work done in complete, accurate detail and in accordance with WordWrite standards and policies. You have a strong sense of duty and a feeling of responsibility for completing work both quickly and correctly.

Successful WordWrite interns are great writers and have working knowledge of social media platforms; you’re always looking for ways to improve your skills. Since PR and communications is a fast-paced industry, change is an ongoing part of this job that you embrace with the support and guidance of management. On a daily basis, you will:

  • Develop weekly WordWrite social media calendars curating content for each platform
    • Implement best practices by understanding the specific nuances of each platform, its audience and how to increase leads
    • Work collaboratively with account executives and digital and inbound marketing teams to create social strategy
  • Become inbound marketing certified in order to assist on digital and inbound marketing assignments
  • Perform a number of public and media relations-related tasks, including:
    • Conducting research
    • Crafting media lists
    • Drafting press releases or other media materials
    • Providing on-site event support
  • Draft content for WordWrite, including blog posts and short-form articles for The Pittsburgh 100
  • Display proficient time management skills as you prioritize tasks and responsibilities dependent on client needs
  • Participate in appropriate new business, visibility and strategic initiatives to benefit WordWrite and WordWrite team members
  • Participate in professional development activities to expand industry knowledge and experience
  • Work with WordWrite leadership to map out a short-term and long-term path for personal and professional growth and development as a member of the WordWrite team
  • Provide support to account staff on various client projects on an as-needed basis

The ideal Intern will have:

  • Knowledge of PR fundamentals and ability to execute tasks
  • Excellent writing skills and knowledge of AP Style
  • Knowledge of Microsoft applications
  • Social media experience
  • Ability to work independently with a curiosity to learn
  • Interest in inbound marketing and the HubSpot platform
  • Attention to detail
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite or video production a plus
